Cicely Saunders Institute Open Seminar Series - Prof. dr. Lieve Van den Block
By Professor Lieve Van den Block, VUB-UGhent End-of-Life Care Research
Group in Belgium.
In this presentation, Professor Van den Block will explore what is needed to move the needle to improve palliative care in nursing homes. Do we need better models of care combining in-house generalist palliative care with
easy access to external specialist advice and training? Do our interventions need to be more theory-informed, more inspired by implementation science, and with more opportunities for tailoring to context and setting?
Or do we first need resolute health policy initiatives to ensure adequate staffing, resources and strong leadership? Finally, Professor Van den Block will explore what we need to improve our evaluations of these nursing
home-specific interventions, focusing on mixed-methods, alternatives to RCTs, theory, and validated outcome measures for staff and residents.
