Yolanda W.H. Penders conducts research that aims to describe and compare quality of palliative care for older people and people with dementia in different European countries. Using existing quantitative data collected across Europe, she tries to identify potential stumbling blocks in providing high quality palliative care to older people and people with dementia, studying e.g. different aspects of communication, end-of-life decision making and use and accessibility of palliative care. She has worked on a variety of national and European projects and is particularly interested in care in nursing homes in various countries. Her dissertation, 'Old age, dementia and end-of-life care' was published by VUBPress in October 2016.
