From 14 – 17 September 2022, the End-of-Life Care Research Group will host the first international Summer School on Public Health & Palliative Care Research in the vibrant city of Ghent, Belgium. The Summer School is organized by the European Association for Palliative Care Reference Group on Public Health & Palliative Care.
There is increasing recognition that the challenges around serious illness, caregiving, dying and bereavement go beyond the scope of professional health care services. Promoting health and wellbeing in these domains entails societal and civic responses complementary to health service responses. Such approaches pose novel research challenges and will require a new generation of well-equipped researchers to tackle them.
This Summer School therefore brings together international leading experts in the field and a new generation of talented young researchers for an in-depth exploration of cutting edge research in public health palliative care. Over the course of four interactive days, it will explore the following themes through keynote lectures and interactive workshops:
1) Compassionate Communities & Community-based participatory research
2) Evaluating public health palliative care interventions: processes and outcomes
3) Epidemiology: population studies in public health palliative care
4) Translating research to practice: valorization of health promoting palliative care
Early career researchers are highly encouraged to actively contribute, ask critical questions and share their own work.
